Veteran TV Icon Pankaj Dheer Passes Away After Long Battle With Cancer

 Mumbai, October 15, 2025 — The Indian television industry is in mourning as veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for his unforgettable portrayal of Karna in B. R. Chopra’s epic serial Mahabharat, has passed away at the age of 68 after a prolonged struggle with cancer.

Friends and colleagues confirmed that Dheer had been fighting cancer for several months, with a relapse following major surgery. His condition had deteriorated in recent weeks.

The Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) released an official statement, saying:

“With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing away of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji.”

His cremation is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today at Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai.

Pankaj Dheer leaves behind his wife Anita Dheer and son Nikitin Dheer (also an actor), among grieving friends, fans, and the larger entertainment fraternity.
